Owoseni insists he’s still Lagos police chief

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, on Wednesday said he was not aware of the appointment of a new police commissioner for the state. According to reports gathered by Eyes Of Lagos, Owoseni told newsmen at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, that he was yet to receive any directive concerning a new police commissioner in the state. “When we get the information, we will let you know,” Owoseni told journalists, in reaction to reports of his reassignment, which was published by some online media organisations. Fidelity Bank grows profit after tax by 66% to N9bn in 6 months

Shareholders of Fidelity Bank Plc should expect a bounteous harvest at the end of the current year given its impressive performance for the half year (H1) ended June 30, 2017. According to reports gathered by Eyes Of Lagos, The results released to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) wednesday showed that Fidelity Bank Plc posted gross earnings of N85.8 billion in H1 of 2017, up 22 per cent from N70.2 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2016. Interest income grew by 27.8 per cent, while interest expenses grew faster by 48 per cent to hit N38.2 billion compared with 25.7 billion in 2016. Germany’s Allianz plans to pay $35 million for 98 per cent stake in Nigerian insurer, Ensure Insurance, in a push for growth in Africa, where many people are uninsured. Foreign insurers are banking on growing premiums as the continent develops its infrastructure and a consumer class demands protection from risk. Suya A 35-year-old man, Alliu Abdullai, who sells barbecued meat, popularly called Suya, has been arrested over attempt to murder a four-year-old child, who was abducted at White Sand Market, Otto, Ebute Meta area of Lagos State.  Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, Abdullai was alleged to have abducted the toddler from her unsuspecting mother’s shop weekend. Nigerian troops kill 82 Boko Haram terrorists, rescue 468 hostages in Borno, Yobe

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have killed 82 Boko Haram terrorists and rescued 468 people during fighting patrols and clearance operations in Borno and Yobe states.The operations, which were carried out in the last two months, led to the liberation of 630 villages and settlements, where the hostages were held by insurgents, before they were rescued and handed over to various camps for screening. Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-General Ibrahim Attahiru, disclosed this to journalists in Maiduguri, yesterday. JUST IN: Evans, Suspected Kidnapper Pleads Guilty

The suspected notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as (aka) Evans, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and kidnapping charges brought before a judge of the Ikeja High Court, Premium Times has reported.  Evans and five others – four men and a woman – were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping. Eyes Of Lagos gathered that the woman  pleaded  not guilty to the all the charges. Ahead of the adjournment of the case to October 19, 2017, the judge ordered that Evans and his four male counterparts be remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Prison while the female defendant is to be kept at the Kirikiri Female Prison. We have recovered over N430.8 Billion in eight months – EFCC

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Ibrahim Magu yesterday said the commission has recovered over N430, 849,162,174 billion in eight months.The funds recovered are N409, 270, 706,686.75; $69, 501,156.67; £231,118.69, €610,816.20; Dr. 443,400.00 (Dirham) and SR70, 500.00 (Saudi Riyal).He also said the EFCC has secured 137 convictions within the same period under review.The anti-graft chairman, however, said he is not fighting anybody and he has no issues with anyone.Although he said he meant no harm in pursuing the fight against corruption, he vowed to fight the menace to a standstill.He urged the media to remain undaunted in supporting the EFCC.Magu, who spoke at a session with representative of media organisations in Abuja, said the battle against corruption was al...
