14 Victims Of Trafficking Rescued, 3 Suspects Arrested

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) has secured the arrest of three suspected human traffickers and rescued fourteen victims of human trafficking. Eye of Lagos Garthered That, the suspects two females suspects,- Evelyn Jerry, 27, Stephen Rebecca, 30, and Mr. Richard Patrick, 38, were intercepted in Lokoja, Kogi state. The fourteen victims, aged between 3 and 13 years, and comprising of 9 females and 5 males, were crammed into an eight-seater Seat Alhambra Sedan. They were taken from Riyom LGA of Plateau state, and on their way to Ekpoma, Edo State before they were intercepted and rescued. Mom And Daughter Steal, Sell Baby For ₦250K

A 42-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter have been arrested by the police in Anambra State, for allegedly stealing a 4-year-old girl, Mesoma Ikoko. Ngozi Ede was said to have arranged with her daughter, Kosiso, and sold the baby for N250, 000 in Awada, Obosi. Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said: “The suspects stole Mesoma from the custody of her mother, one Nneka Ikoko of Mammy Market, Army Barracks, Onitsha. Preliminary investigation further led to the arrest of one Ifeoma Okeke, 45, who collected the child from the suspects and handed over her to one Ifeoma Okonkwo of Eke Nkpor.

Uyi Giwa Osagie: EFCC Arrests Atiku’s Lawyer Over $4m cash

EFCC has arrested Uyi Giwa Osagie, the lawyer of former Vice President AtikuAbubakar, for alleged laundering $4m which the commission believes to be suspicious election cash. Osagie was arrested on Monday following the arrest of Alhaji Abdullahi Usman, a BDC owner based in Lagos, who was caught ferrying $2milion by air from Abuja to Lagos. When the money was intercepted by EFCC, Usman, who owns Hasbunallahu BDC LTD, confessed that Uyi paid naira equivalent of $4million into his account. He converted it to $2million pieces and ferried to Lagos, and on arrival took it to Keystone Bank. After arresting Uyi, EFCC operatives searched his Ikoyi Reeve Road home and found documents linking him to Atiku.

FIRS lifts restrictions on bank accounts of alleged tax defaulters

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has written to banks, directing them to lift the lien on tax defaulters’ bank accounts for 30 days. The directive, which takes immediate effect, was contained in a letter from Tunde Fowler, the chairman, FIRS, to bank managing directors. Central bank of Nigeria urged to sustain monetary policy to further curb inflation

A Don, Dr Austine Nwaeze, has urged the apex bank to sustain its current monetary policy to curb the nation’s inflation rate. Nwaeze, who teaches Economics at the Pan Atlantic University, Lekki, Lagos said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday. The lecturer, who was reacting to the inflation figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday in Abuja, noted that a lower inflation rate would lead to price stability. Eyes Of Lagos reports that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by NBS showed that inflation decreased to 11.37 per cent (year-on-year) in January 2019 compared to 11.44 per cent in December 2018.
