Mavin Records CEO, Don Jazzy, launched his latest business initiative, a free WiFi service called Flobyt in Lagos on Friday.
The unveiling of the initiative was held at the Renaissance Hotel in Lagos. Don Jazzy partnered with founder of Tsaboin, Dele Odufuye, to make the dream a reality.
Flobyt is a free WiFi service installed across partner locations in Lagos like eateries, parks, taxis, buses, restaurants and many other businesses. The service is free for patrons of a business who wish to access the internet while in the premises of the patron locations. The internet router itself is a plug-and-play device that, according to the founders, does not require much technical know-how to operate.
Flobyt Wifi is designed to replicate your ‘at home’ wifi experience, when you’re out and about. Checking emails, uploading photos to Facebook, funny instagram videos – whatever you’re into, surf it for free on your smartphone or tablet.
According to co-founder, Dele Odufuye,
“Flobyt is 100% free for the users and our partner locations, all you have to do is walk in and log in. In fact, our working slogan is ‘Don’t use your data, use ours’”
Speaking at the occasion, Don Jazzy said investing in Flobyt has been a life-long dream of his.
“I have always wanted to play big in the technology space and I looked for people who were sound and had a beautiful track record in the technology space. This is my first business investment in the technology space that is public while I remain a silent partner in others.“I am really interested in driving Flobyts reach beyond Lagos. Our Wi-Fi is the fastest in town and those who stream our music and content as entertainers are from the US and the UK. We believe that if we improve our services the numbers can improve.”
Flobyt WiFi is currently installed in various locations across Lagos and can accommodate 10 – 30 users at a time. For locations with higher traffic, Flobyt Max can take up to 80 users. Businesses and users can nominate their location to be Flobyt WiFi hosts free of charge by filling out a form on the website.
The company plans to take its services to other parts of Nigeria, through West Africa and ultimately throughout Africa giving the public access to free internet while providing value for the business owners.
