The former Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University,
Anthony Elujoba, has been ordered to be remanded in Ilesha Prisons
after his bail application was dismissed yesterday morning by Justice
David Oladimeji of the Federal High Court in Ede, Osun State.
He is currently standing trial on a seven count charge for allegedly
defrauding the institution of N1.4 billion while he was in office.
He was arrested by EFCC operatives following a petition that he committed fraud while in office.
On July 7th, he was arraigned in court by EFCC and was later sent
back to EFCC detention pending the hearing of his bail application which
was yesterday.
Meanwhile staff and students of the school have alleged that their former VC is being victimized by some political bigwigs.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, of the school had
declared Monday and Tuesday lecture Free in solidarity with the former
VC as they claim he committed no crime while he was in office.
After the judge dismissed his bail application, the Non-Academic
Staff Union of Universities, NASU, locked down the court gate, demanding
that the order by the judge be withdrawn.
