Residents of 411 Road Junction, Gowon Estate, Federal Housing Authority, Egbeda, Lagos Mainland, were thrown into discomfort following an inferno that razed five of eight shops attached to a Union Bank building in the area.
Eyes Of Lagos gathered that the inferno started late Monday night when power supply to the area was taken by the power company.
According to the residents, the fire started at the makeshift shops at the time when many of the shop owners had closed and gone home.
Meanwhile, it took the timely intervention of youths in the area to contain the fire prior to the arrival of rescue officials and the men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA).
While the cause of the fire could not be ascertained by anyone, the residents argued that the state government to install water hydrants and fire notices all over the estate, lamented that some of the areas marked for the development of infrastructure for sports, fire service stations and recreation had been sold to individuals by the Federal Housing Authority.
