The emergency response team of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) closed a section of the Ikorodu Road along Anthony, Lagos Mainland moments ago after a fuel-laden tanker caught fire in the area.
Eyes Of Lagos gathered that the tanker moving inwards Idiroko – Anthony suddenly caught fire leading to motorists and other bystanders scampering for safety.
Rescue officers were immediately deployed to the scene to manage the incident with men of the Lagos State Fire Service and LASEMA combining efforts to put out the fire.
As a result of the incident, the main carriage way was cordoned off for final evacuation of the burnt tanker by the rescue officers. Meanwhile, the service lane is open for vehicular movement.
According to the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the tanker is currently being moved to a lay-by along Anthony to ease vehicular movement in the axis.
The agency added that the road will be open to motorists once the burnt tanker gets to a secure location.
Meanwhile, the road closure has led to a heavy traffic along Ojota inward Idiroko. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to access their various destinations while rescue officers work to ensure the road is safe for everyone to use.
