Residents of Oloye Community in Erunwen Estate, Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland staged a protest march to the Ikorodu office of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) in Alogba Estate, Ikorodu, to protest a one week of power outage and the estimated billings for customers in the community.
The protesters marched to the Ikeja Electric in numbers chanting protests songs while also carrying placards with various messages such as; ‘All we ask for, give us pre-paid meter; Ikeja Disco Fear God; We say no to illogical and unreasonable crazy bill and Ikeja Disco, Meter our Community or go away with your light; We are fed up with estimated billing system among several others.
Speaking at the protest, a resident Ishola Eyitayo said; “We are here to express our grievances to the IKEDC management on the bad treatment being meted to our people at Oloye community, Erunwen. For instance, last month April, we did not have light for almost two weeks, when they brought bill for the month, it was higher than the previous month when there was light’
Another resident who pleaded anonymity disclosed that he has paid a total of N460,000.00 as electricity bill in the last five years, wondering how he could be thrown into darkness with such huge payment to the electricity company.
Eyes Of Lagos gathered that the protest disrupted the activities at the IKEDC office creating a blockade at the Alogba Estate Zone B gate. The development prompted the IKEDC management to invite the police to the scene. The police were however professional in the discharge of their duties on seeing that the protest was a peaceful one.
