A sixteen-year-old boy is taken into custody by Jigawa Police for allegedly staging his own abduction

Safiyanu Lawan, an 18-year-old youth who staged his own kidnapping in the state’s Kiyawa Local Government Area, has been taken into custody by the Jigawa State Police Command.

In a statement released on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the command’s spokeswoman, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam, said that the young guy had planned with one Abdulrazak Salisu, 27, to pretend to be abducted in order to get money from his father.

The statement says, “On April 19, 2024, at approximately 1430 hours, one Alhaji Lawan Dankoli’m’ of Kiyawa LGA reported at State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse that, on April 17, 2024, his son, one Safiyanu Lawan’m’, who is 18 years old, went shopping in preparation for the start of school but has not returned back.”

“Later on the same date at about 2320hrs, an unknown person called him severally with an unknown number and threatening him that, the said Safiyanu was kidnapped. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
“On receipt of the information, a team of Policemen attached to State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse swung into action and visited the scene of crime where one Abdulrazak Salisu ‘m’ age 27yrs of Zango quarters, Kiyawa LGA was arrested in connection with the case.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have known where the said Safiyanu was hiding and that they conspired together in order to collect money from the father; the team swiftly moved to the location and arrested the acclaimed victim (safiyanu lawan).
β€œMeanwhile investigation is ongoing, while suspects will be arraigned for prosecution.”
