Tinubu appoints Jim Ovia as chairman of education loan fund

Jim Ovia has been named by President Bola Tinubu as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) chairman.

The appointment of Ovia, chairman of Zenith Bank, was announced in a statement on Friday by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale.

According to Ngelale, Tinubu is confident that Ovia will use his vast knowledge to make sure that no Nigerian student faces financial hardship while pursuing a postsecondary degree.

The student loan amendment bill was signed into law by Tinubu on April 3 in order to give Nigerians access to high-quality education. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The law will allow Nigerian students in tertiary institutions to access low-interest loans for tuition and other academic needs.

Subsequently, the president appointed Akintunde Sawyerr as the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of the fund.

Tinubu also appointed Frederick Oluwafemi Akinfala as the executive director of finance and administration, while Mustapha Iyal will serve as the executive director of operations of NELFUND.
