In Edo State, a father and his son killed Mrs. Nata Igbinovia, a mother of four, by stabbing her to death during a fight break.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, April 27, 2024, near Auchi Road in the Okpagha-Ewuare, Eyaen quarters, an outlying neighborhood of Benin City.
The suspect, Ayo Mr. Philip, has been taken into custody, according to SP Chidi Nwabuzor, a spokeswoman for the State Police Command who verified the event.
“Yes, the suspect, Philip Ayo, was taken into custody yesterday, and the Command is aware of it. An investigation has also been launched. The murder case is still being investigated, he stated. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
According to the woman’s daughter, Patience, her mother was separating a fight between her nephew and their neighbours (the suspects) after a heated argument when they hacked her to death with a knife and an axe.
She alleged that during the argument, Mr. Philip brought out a knife to stab her cousin but was blocked by her mother who got injured in the process.
She added that the deceased thereafter fell down, while the suspect’s son who had ran inside their room, came out with an axe and hit her mother with it on her back, just as his father who was still holding the knife again stabbed her mother on the chest.
According to Patience, on seeing the deceased lying unconscious on the ground, the suspects fled before sympathizers could reach the scene.
She said a good Samaritan in the neighbourhood who heard of the incident immediately brought a vehicle in which the deceased was taken to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.
It was gathered that operatives of the Eyaen police division have visited the scene and had already commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
