FAAN Forms Task Force To End Extortion And Touting At Nigerian Airports

EXCERPT: A task force has been established by FAAN’s MD, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, to address harassment and extortion at Nigerian airports.

By creating a special task force to keep an eye on activities at the airports under its management, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has made a significant step toward the elimination of touting, extortion, and illicit activities at the airports.

The Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, voiced her profound worry over the continued harassment and extortion of passengers at the airports in response to allegations of illicit activities occurring at the various airports.

She reaffirmed her dedication to ensuring that travelers have a seamless and enjoyable experience and mentioned that her administration has started a massive push to put a stop to these unlawful acts.

The FAAN Director of Special Duties, Mr. Henry Agbebire, has been designated as the task force chairman, she stated, and he will lead this endeavor.

In order to guarantee adherence to the anti-touting and anti-extortion policies, Kuku has also stated her plan to directly interact with all government organizations present at the airports.

She issued a warning to all airport workers, including FAAN employees, emphasizing that anyone caught participating in illegal activities would face severe disciplinary action.

She emphasized that the days of conducting business as usual had passed and emphasized the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for wrongdoing.

Kuku also revealed intentions to set up magistrate courts at international airports in order to speed up the judicial system’s ability to prosecute offenders. The task force’s mandate is to uphold a culture of professionalism at all levels and enforce discipline among airport employees.

She added that specific phone numbers and QR codes would be established to give travelers a way to leave comments about their experience at the airport. Kuku also emphasized the importance of all airport staff members clearly displaying their name tags and on-duty cards for simple identification and accountability.

Additionally, Kuku reaffirmed FAAN’s dedication to providing outstanding service and guaranteeing a secure atmosphere for all travelers and airport users.
