The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly luring drivers with a bowl of pepper soup and stealing an Uber car. The Police Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundein, confirmed this news on Saturday, July 13, 2024. According to the PPRO, on July 5th, at about 8pm, the Akinpelu Police Station received a call from an unnamed Uber driver. According to him, the driver reported that he had picked up a passenger who identified himself as Isaiah in his Toyota Corolla from an NNPC filling station in Maryland to a certain hotel in the Oshodi area. The spokesperson noted that the suspect bought the driver a meal, pepper soup and energy drinks at the hotel. “The suspect was looking for some cotton swabs to clean his ears when the driver handed him the car keys. The driver further stated that the suspect, after picking up the car keys, went downstairs and drove the car from the parking lot. However, he was intercepted by a police team conducting a search operation at Borradale Street. “He was arrested as he was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the ownership of the vehicle,” he said. Hundeyin further said that when police officers were about to take the suspect to the station, the driver came to the scene and spotted the car. The suspect was arrested for further investigation, he said.
