Serie A: Lookman’s Atalanta thrash Lecce 4-0 as new signings shine

Atalanta defeated Lecce 4-0 on Monday night to start their Serie A campaign in style.

fresh hires Both Mateo Retegui and Marco Brescianini made an immediate impression, scoring braces on their complete debuts.

Even though they were without a few important players, Atalanta controlled the game.

After losing to Real Madrid 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup, Atalanta had a thin starting eleven against Lecce. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Notably, Ademola Lookman and Teun Koopmeiners were absent due to transfer speculations.

However, Brescianini, recently signed from Frosinone, was thrust into the starting lineup and made an immediate impact.

Lecce started aggressively, but Atalanta gradually took control.

Davide Zappacosta and Charles De Ketelaere came close before Brescianini broke the deadlock, capitalizing on a Mateo Retegui header that was initially saved by Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.

Retegui doubled the lead with a powerful header just before halftime.

In the second half, Retegui completed his brace with a penalty after a VAR review confirmed a foul on him.

Brescianini then added his second, calmly finishing a through ball from Mario Pasalic in the 66th minute.
