Several Passengers Injured As Two BRT Buses Collide In Lagos

Following a late-night crash on Tuesday in the Iyana Ipaja neighborhood of Lagos involving two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses, numerous passengers suffered injuries.

According to a post on X by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident happened in the BRT lane on the Lagos Abeokuta Express Way, close to the Danco Filling Station.

It further stated that the injured individuals had been taken to a local hospital for emergency care.

In a follow-up statement, Nosa Okunbor, the head of LASEMA’s public affairs unit, said that investigations at the scene showed that the BRT bus was traveling inward toward Iyana Ipaja when it collided with an oncoming BRT bus in an effort to avoid crushing a commercial motorcycle rider who was using the BRT corridor illegally.

According to Okunbor, no lives were lost as a result of the incident.

“However, passengers of both buses reportedly suffered various degrees of injuries and were all taken to the nearest hospital before the arrival of Agency’s Response Team,” he said.

He added that two tow trucks were activated to evacuate the accident BRT buses off the road.
