Despite paying a ransom, bandits kill an Islamic cleric in Katsina

In Katsina State, bandits kidnapped Malam Aminu, a well-known Islamic preacher, in exchange for a ransom payment.

The cleric was kidnapped from his home in Dugun-mu’azu town in the state’s Sabuwa Local Government Area, according to journalist Bakatsine Dan Katsina, many weeks ago. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The preacher was allegedly beheaded to death by his kidnappers, even though their demands for a ransom were met. The cleric was the Na’ibi (Deputy Imam) of the town’s primary Juma’at mosque.

Residents claim that when the bandits first requested money, the family immediately gave it to them. They then asked for cell phones, which were also provided.

But on Sunday, September 29, 2024, his family tragically learned that he had been killed in captivity, even though he had complied with all of the demands made of him.

One individual conveyed the shock and grief felt by the neighborhood.

Malam Aminu was a man of integrity who was well-known for his devotion to the mosque and his ceaseless prayers for our town’s security and welfare. The resident expressed her sorrow at the harsh way in which his life was snatched, particularly considering that all he had done was ask God to keep him safe from the violence that afflicts our neighborhood.

Many residents feel that the cleric’s life was cut short because he was leading prayers against the increasing wave of terrorism in the area, which is why they are outraged by his death.

It seems his only crime was his commitment to praying for peace and protection. His murder is not just an attack on him but an attack on our community and our faith,” another resident said.
