Newborn baby in coma, two injured as gas explosion rocks Nigerian journalist’s home

A gas explosion at the residence of Nigerian journalist Abdulkareem Haruna left two people with varied degrees of injuries and a newborn baby in a coma.

On Monday, September 30, a coworker named Hamza Suleiman posted on Facebook to corroborate the story, stating that the explosion happened while family members were getting ready for the newborn’s naming ceremony.  Eyes Of Lagos reports,

He added, “In a tragic incident this morning, there was a sudden gas explosion at journalist Abdulkareem Haruna’s residence, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood.”

“A malfunctioning gas cylinder is thought to have been the source of the explosion, which ripped through the kitchen while family members were getting ready for the newborn’s naming ceremony.

“Also In a heartbreaking turn, a newborn baby, just days old, was caught in the blast and slipped into a coma due to the trauma. The child was rushed to the hospital.
“Let us rally around Abdulkareem Haruna and his family, hoping for the speedy recovery of the injured and pray for the newborn child.”
