If the police don’t, the people of the Rivers may protect themselves—Briggs

Renowned environmentalist and human rights campaigner Ann-Kio Briggs, who lives in Rivers, has denounced the Nigeria Police Force for actions she described as “dangerous” and “unacceptable” in the oil-rich state.

Briggs expressed her worries about the possible repercussions of the police’s conduct on Monday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television. She expressly denounced the selective application of court decisions, especially in light of the recent election of 23 chairman of local governments in Rivers State. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Despite Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s warning that certain political actors, upset with the election results, had plans to incite violence, Briggs lambasted the police for removing personnel from local council secretariats.

“We’ve been calling out since this political madness began in October of last year,” the woman stated. We are trying to find out why the infant died in the morning after the witch wept in the middle of the night. No. We are well aware of the situation.

“We are aware that the particular local governments in question are those that have rejected the fact that their terms ended more than three months ago. Since last year, the leaders of these particular local governments have dubbed the governor a variety of derogatory names.

“After the local government chairmen’s terms ended, our police force locked up all 23 of Rivers State’s local government offices for the previous three months.

And knowing full well that there would be trouble, they were all told to depart the local government regions this morning, putting the freshly elected local government chairmen in jeopardy.

Briggs stated that President Bola Tinubu had been urged to step in by the people of the state for more than a year, but he declined.

“Now, that this has transpired, local governments are on fire, and the President is now calling on the governor of Rivers State, and I don’t know who else that is nameless that the President has refused to name, calling on them to make sure that the state is safe.

“The state is meant to be maintained by the police. The people of Rivers State find this to be unsafe and unacceptable,” she continued.
