Singer Speed Darlington has filed a ₦300 million lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over alleged unlawful detention. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
The artist was arrested in late 2024 following remarks he made about Afrobeat star Burna Boy. Police accused Speed Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking related to his comments. Despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court on December 23, 2024, he remained in detention.
His lawyer later alleged that Burna Boy had influenced the police to prolong the detention.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, the court issued a fresh order demanding Darlington’s release. Hours after regaining his freedom, the singer initiated a ₦300 million legal action against the IGP, citing a violation of his rights.
