Ibadan Stampede: Court grants Queen Naomi bail of N10 million.

An Oyo State High Court has granted former Queen of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, a N10 million bail in connection with the Ibadan stampede. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Justice K.B. Olawoyin delivered the ruling on Monday, also granting bail to Ibadan-based media personality, Oriyomi Hamzat, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Abdulahi Fasasi. The court set five conditions for the bail, including the N10 million and two sureties who must provide land documents within the court’s jurisdiction.

On January 10, 2025, the state filed an eight-count charge of murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence against Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of an Ibadan-based radio station; and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of the school.

The trio were arrested and charged after a stampede occurred at an event organized by Naomi on December 18, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 35 children and left six others hospitalized.
