Why I fell out with P-Square – Mr May D

Afropop singer Awodumila, popularly known as Mr. May D, has finally addressed the real reason behind his fallout with the P-Square group and Square Records. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Recall that May D left Square Records on August 21, 2012, due to internal disputes. In a snippet from an unreleased episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, the 40-year-old artist revealed that his disagreement with the twins was because they allegedly cost him a deal with Akon.

He explained:

“Initially, they didn’t want to sign me. They were like, ‘Let us help you the way we helped J Martins and Bracket.’ When we went to shoot the ‘Chop My Money’ video, I was in Nigeria, but they had already gone to shoot it. Akon didn’t show up until I went to America. He said he wanted me to be in the video.”

“I was confused because Akon had jumped on ‘Chop My Money,’ and they said yes, he did. So I had to go to America for the video because Akon said if I wasn’t there, he wouldn’t shoot it.”

“When I got to America, Akon called me to his office and told me, ‘I’ve got many deals for you. When you get back to Nigeria, call me. I’ll book you a flight to come back.’ He asked if I had any deals with these guys, and I told him no. He said, ‘I won’t say anything, but when you get to America, we’ll talk.’”

“When I got back to Nigeria, I honestly told P-Square because they were the ones who helped me get there. If I had known, I wouldn’t have told them.”
