Speculation reached a fever pitch on Monday after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police forcefully invaded the Assembly complex, sealing off the offices of Speaker Meranda, her deputy, and the clerk in a dramatic turn of events.
As tensions rose, reports of Meranda’s alleged resignation began circulating, prompting an immediate response from her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, who debunked the claims as “a lie from the pit of hell.”
“Let’s be clear—Speaker Meranda has not resigned. If she had, would she be presiding over plenary today?” Ajiboye questioned, setting the record straight.
The crisis, which started with the controversial removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, has now escalated beyond expectations, leading to heightened security presence and deepening political tensions within the Assembly.
In reaction to the unfolding drama, a key member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Muraina Taiwo, admitted that the crisis had spiraled beyond control and called for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention to restore stability.
With the political landscape in Lagos on edge, all eyes are now on the unfolding events at the State Assembly. Will there be a resolution, or is this just the beginning of a deeper power struggle? Stay tuned for exclusive updates!
