Veteran Nollywood actress and politician, Hilda Dokubo, has fiercely criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, accusing him of plotting to seize control of the state’s economic assets. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Dokubo, a proud Rivers indigene, expressed her outrage on social media, calling the move “shameless” and questioning the real motive behind the sudden suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
“State of Emergency for What?” – Dokubo Questions Tinubu
In a national address on March 18, 2025, Tinubu defended his decision, claiming that the political crisis in Rivers had disrupted governance. However, Dokubo is not buying it.
Taking to Instagram, she called out Tinubu, insisting that the so-called crisis is a fabricated excuse to take over Rivers’ vast economic resources.
“State of emergency because for two years we have had peace!
State of emergency because you want to capture the economic soul of Rivers State!
State of emergency because of one man?
Shameless! Perhaps Mr. President should just say he wants to annex Rivers State.”
“Animal Farm Politics?” – Dokubo Mocks Tinubu
Drawing inspiration from George Orwell’s famous book “Animal Farm,” Dokubo sarcastically suggested that Rivers citizens should receive copies of the novel as a “palliative”, implying that the situation is turning into a dictatorship.
“The Animal Farm by George Orwell should be given to every Rivers State citizen as palliative. Meantime, someone tell Mr. Jones to rein in his pigs,” she added.
