21-Year-Old Woman Sexually Assaulted After Falling for Fake Job Offer in Harare

A 21-year-old woman in Harare, Zimbabwe, has suffered a horrific ordeal after being deceived by men posing as job recruiters. The victim, who was actively searching for employment, responded to a fake job offer and was later gang r@ped and robbed by her attackers. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to local authorities, the young woman was contacted by a man who introduced himself as “Anthony,” claiming she had been shortlisted for an accounting position. They arranged to meet in the city center — at the corner of Robson Manyika and Angwa Street — around 3 p.m.

Upon arrival, she was met by two men in a silver Honda Fit. She entered the car, believing it was part of the job recruitment process. Instead of discussing the job opportunity, the suspects diverted towards Chitungwiza via Seke Road, where they turned violent.

The attackers reportedly stole her iPhone and the small amount of cash she had on her before taking turns to sexually assault her without protection. After the traumatic incident, they dumped her along the road and fled the scene.

Police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. The victim has since been referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical treatment.

“Police are investigating a rape and robbery case. The complainant has been given medical attention, and efforts to apprehend the suspects are underway,” said Chakanza.

Public Advisory to Job Seekers

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a warning urging job seekers to be extra cautious when responding to job offers—particularly those received through informal or unsolicited channels. Authorities stress the importance of verifying job advertisements and interview details before meeting strangers, especially in secluded or unregulated environments.
