There was pandemonium in Offin community in Igbogbo-Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland after residents of the community discovered the lifeless remains of one Victor Kanayo in the area.
According to sources, the victim who is a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God mission, Fingers of God Parish, was murdered by his assailants suspected to be members of a cult gang in the early hours of today, Sunday, November 26, 2017.
It was gathered that the victim’s head was smashed in with two big stones by his killers, an indication that the killing might be connected to the dreaded Badoo gang.
In addition, the wife of the victim and his 10-month-old baby were found alive but unconscious. They were reportedly rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent care by security operatives from the Igbogbo Division who rushed to the scene after a distress call was made to the Division.
A resident of the area told Eyes Of Lagos that the incident threw residents of the area into confusion as the area had witnessed relative peace since the end of Badoo ritualist killings in Ikorodu community and environs.
“There has been peace in Offin and Ikorodu as a whole for a long time now. This situation has brought fear the area. Some people are already having fears of staying in their homes,” the source said.
“I was returning from the field when I heard about the incident. At that time, the Police had already arrived questioning people around. They later left in their van with the wife and baby of the victim,” the source added.
Efforts to get the operatives of the local vigilante group, Onyabo, to speak on the incident proved futile as at press time.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Chike Oti, while commenting on the incident said the Command has made a couple of arrests and that the suspects are being questioned with a view to discover the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
Oti added that State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has “dispatched a team of crack detectives to unravel those behind the murder; dig into the past of the victim and see if there is a correlation between his past and his fate.”
“The issue of his past before he became a born-again Christian is of interest to the police because of a human skull tattoo drawn on his left arm which gives the victim away as one who may have belonged to any of the dreaded cult groups,” he concluded.
