Obiano swears in 21 local govt transition council chairs

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has sworn in 21 Transition Council chairmen for the Local Governments councils in the state.
In the list were former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Chukwudi Orizu and two other erstwhile House Members represented Ayamelum state constituency, Mr. Collins Nwabunwanne, and his Dunukofia state constituency counterpart, Mr. Uchenna Omerie.
Others who made the list included, a legal practitioner, Asha Raphael Nnabuife for Idemili North, Patrick Agha Mba for Onitsha North and Emeka Asoanya for Onitsha South,
They were among the nominees for chairmen and councilors confirmed on Wednesday by the lawmakers in Awka during the plenary session as transitional caretaker committees for the state 21 local government areas.
The tenure of the transitional committee as approved by the state assembly was for three months after which they can be renewed or fresh appointment be made.
The lawmakers at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mrs Rita Maduagwu, confirmed all the nominees submitted by the governor.
Addressing the local government transitional caretaker chairmen, the Speaker reminded them that they were the closest government to the grass roots and urged them to work tirelessly to better the lives of their rural populace.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues chairman of Nnewi North, Mr Chukwudi Orizu, said that he was happy for the opportunity given them to serve the people of their local government and pledged that they will not betray the trust reposed in them by the governor and the state lawmakers.
Collaborating Orizu’s statement, Mr Raymond Onyegu of Orumba South local council said that they would work to ensure that the people at the grassroots gets dividend of democracy.
Onyegu said that he would use his new position to bring enduring peace and development in the 15 communities in the council areas adding that the governor had done well and deserves second term in office.
It would be recalled that Governor Willie Obiano had, on Thursday, March 23, submitted a list of nominees to the state house of assembly for screening and confirmation as chairmen and councilors for the state 21 local government areas.
The list of the nominees was later referred to the House committee on screening for proper vetting and to make necessary report to house at plenary.
After receiving the report of the committee the house during plenary was resolved to committee of the whole where the nominees was invited for final screening and confirmation by the lawmakers.
