Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has restored Muhammadu Sanusi II to his position as the Emir of Kano, but he has spoken out against the prospect of being overthrown by another administration.
The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) made it clear in an interview that protecting the Kano Emirate’s more than a millennium-old legacy is more important to him than the title itself.
Even now that I’m here, I have no idea how long I’ll stay. Only God knows. Tomorrow, I could pass away. Tomorrow, a different governor could arrive and declare that I’ve been fired. It’s irrelevant,” Sanusi declared. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Reflecting on past challenges with previous administrations in Kano State, Sanusi highlighted his concern over attempts to interfere with the traditional Emirate system.
“But I am happy if he does not touch the emirate. I am happy that I will not leave a history that it was during my time that these 1000 years of history was destroyed.
He expressed gratitude for the recent actions taken by Governor Yusuf and the Kano State House of Assembly to restore and protect the integrity of the Emirate’s longstanding heritage.
“So, I am grateful to this government, grateful to this Assembly that they have corrected that, that we have the emirate restored to what it was and Insha’Allah that when I die or when I leave, the person who inherits will inherit what we had. It’s about the system, not about me or about any individual,” he added.
