Following Thursday’s helicopter crash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the military and relevant agencies to intensify rescue and recovery operations at the crash site.
The tragic incident involved a chartered helicopter, marked 5NBQG, operated by Eastwind Aviation Logistics Services Limited and carrying senior officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The helicopter had taken off from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) and was en route to the NUIM ANTAN oil rig near Bonny Finima when it went down roughly one kilometer from its destination around 11:30 a.m. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
In response to the Port Harcourt helicopter crash, President Tinubu issued a directive last night, emphasizing the need for swift and efficient search and rescue operations to facilitate the recovery of any survivors and effectively manage the aftermath.
In a statement shared by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President urged military officers engaged in operations within the region to assist in the rescue mission, coordinating efforts with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant agencies.
“The President extends his condolences to the Board and staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident,” the statement read.
President Tinubu expressed heartfelt prayers for the three departed souls, asking that Almighty God grant them eternal rest and bring comfort to their grieving families.
