“Australian Government Issues Travel Warning for Citizens Planning to Visit Nigeria”

The Australian government has issued a warning to its citizens against traveling to Nigeria due to concerns over terrorism and insecurity. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) highlighted the volatile security situation in Nigeria, citing risks such as terrorism, kidnapping, violent crime, and potential civil unrest. The advisory noted that terrorist attacks might target foreigners and urged citizens to avoid travel.

The statement read:

“Reconsider your need to travel to Nigeria overall due to the volatile security situation and the threat of terrorism, kidnapping, violent crime, and the risk of civil unrest.

“There is a high risk of terrorist attacks across Nigeria by various militant groups. These attacks could be indiscriminate or directed at foreign interests.

“Potential targets include crowded locations such as hotels, bars, restaurants, political gatherings, government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, sports events, transport hubs, law enforcement facilities, international organizations, and camps for displaced persons.

“Reconsider your need to travel to Nigeria overall, including the capital, Abuja.

“Do not travel to the following states: Adamawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Federal Capital Territory (excluding Abuja), Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.”

The advisory underscores the heightened risks in these regions and advises Australians to exercise extreme caution or avoid travel entirely.
