Husband Calls Out Nursing Council for Overworking His Wife with Night Shifts, Sparks Debate Online

A Nigerian man has taken to TikTok to vent his frustration at the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for assigning constant night duties to his wife, a nurse. According to him, their marriage is suffering because he rarely gets to enjoy her company anymore. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a heartfelt video, he appealed to the council to stop giving married women night shifts, explaining how it disrupts their family life.

“I’m calling out the NMCN to please stop putting married women on night duties,” he began passionately. “I don’t enjoy my wife anymore, especially when she’s on night duty. I sleep alone, and I’m missing her. When she comes home around 9 or 10 a.m., all she wants to do is sleep!”

His wife, appearing in the background of the video, laughed and tried to dismiss his claims, saying they had just spent quality time together that day. But the husband insisted this was a rare occurrence.

“Only today! Other days, I don’t have access to you,” he added. “When she wakes up around 2 or 3 p.m., she cooks and starts preparing for another night shift. Is that even a life?”

He went on to propose that night shifts should only be assigned to single nurses, a suggestion that sparked a wave of heated reactions online.

Social Media Reactions

The man’s comments quickly went viral, with netizens flooding the comment section to share their opinions:

The video has sparked widespread debate about the work-life balance for healthcare professionals and whether night duties should consider marital or family status.

What do you think? Should night shifts prioritize singles, or is this just part of the nursing life? 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️
