The shocking death of Bamidele Akingboye, former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the November 2024 Ondo State election, has taken a dramatic twist as allegations of domestic violence surface. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The 60-year-old politician and businessman reportedly died last Wednesday at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.

Official Confirmation of Death

In a statement, his Personal Assistant and Media Adviser, Oyeniyi Iwakun, confirmed the passing, describing Akingboye as “a man of integrity, a philanthropist, and a visionary leader.” He noted that details of the burial arrangement would be made public soon.

Allegations of Domestic Violence

However, reports by SaharaReporters allege that Akingboye’s death may not have been natural. A source claimed that one of his wives allegedly pushed him off a balcony, leading to fatal injuries.

Graphic images circulating online appear to show bruises and deep cuts on his head and neck, fueling suspicions that foul play may have been involved.

Akingboye’s Career and Legacy

Beyond politics, Akingboye was a respected entrepreneur. He served as CEO of Benshore Maritime, Clog Oil Systems, and was also President of WeAfrica Group. In the 2024 Ondo governorship race, he emerged as a major contender before the eventual victory of APC’s Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Police Investigation Underway

Police authorities have since confirmed that a discreet investigation is ongoing to determine the actual cause of death. Meanwhile, civil society groups and rights activists have called for transparency, warning against a possible cover-up in the high-profile case.

The tragic incident has left many shocked, with Nigerians demanding justice and clarity on the circumstances surrounding the politician’s death.
