Former Arsenal Player Billy Vigar Dies at 21 Following Injury During Match
Tragic news has emerged in the football world as former Arsenal striker Billy Vigar has passed away at the age of 21 after suffering a severe brain injury while playing for Chichester City last weekend.
Vigar was injured during Saturday’s Isthmian League Premier Division clash against Wingate and Finchley, which led to the match being abandoned after just 13 minutes. Following the injury, he was placed in an induced coma. Despite undergoing surgery on Tuesday to improve his chances of recovery, his condition remained critical, and he sadly passed away on Thursday morning, September 25. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
In a statement, Vigar’s family said:
“The responses to the original update show how much Billy was thought of and loved within the sport. His family are devastated that this has happened whilst he was playing the sport that he loved.”
Chichester City also expressed their sorrow:
“It is with great sadness that Chichester City Football Club has to confirm the passing of Billy Vigar. We request that his family’s privacy is respected at this most difficult time.”
A Promising Career Cut Short
Billy Vigar joined Arsenal’s academy in 2017 as a 14-year-old and signed his first professional contract in 2022. During his career, he spent time on loan with Derby and Eastbourne Borough before joining Hastings United in 2024. He moved to Chichester City at the start of the current season.
