Lagos Government Seals Lekki Residence Over Wastewater Pollution (Photos)
The Lagos State Government has sealed off a residence in TPDC Estate, Lekki, over illegal wastewater discharge that reportedly created serious health and environmental hazards in the community. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Complaint From Residents
Trouble began after a concerned resident shared a video online showing stagnant wastewater around the property. The resident alleged that improper disposal practices by the occupants were breeding mosquitoes and spreading illness within the neighborhood.
Government Swift Response
Reacting to the complaint, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the enforcement via his official X (Twitter) handle.
“Following the public complaint by @Bond_not_james, we have acted decisively at TPDC Estate. The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed off No. 11, Major Bolaji Ariyo Street, Off Afoluke Avenue, Lekki, Eti-Osa, for deliberate discharge of wastewater into the environment, causing public nuisance, pollution, and endangering human life,” Wahab stated.
Government’s Warning on Waste Disposal
Wahab further stressed that improper waste disposal remains a major threat to public health and the environment. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that Lagos remains clean, safe, and livable for all residents, warning that violators will face strict sanctions.
The action has sparked mixed reactions online, with many residents commending the swift intervention while others called for more consistent monitoring of estates and neighborhoods across the state.
