According to reports, the groom had already settled the ₦3.5 million bride price and covered other wedding expenses, including event planners and catering services. However, the bride’s family insisted he must pay an extra ₦1.5m, claiming it was part of their “family tradition.”

Groom Tried to Negotiate But Failed

Sources revealed that the groom attempted to negotiate by offering to handle the catering himself, but his proposal was rejected. His disappointment deepened when his fiancée allegedly refused to intervene or support him during the standoff with her family.

In frustration, the groom decided to cancel the wedding entirely, despite still having strong feelings for his would-be bride.

Social Media Reacts

The story gained attention after X (formerly Twitter) user @itzchristunique shared the groom’s ordeal online. The post revealed the man’s frustration, especially over his fiancée’s silence during the disagreement.

“My friend’s brother, whose wedding was supposed to take place in December, just cancelled it. The family of his fiancée demanded he pay ₦1.5m for food to be served that day,” the post read.

It further explained that the groom had already spent millions on bride price and preparations, yet the family remained unyielding in their demand.

Mixed Opinions Online

The development has sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some users supported the groom’s decision, describing the family’s demand as exploitative, others argued that family traditions should be respected if both partners are serious about marriage.
