Ogun Gateway Airport Kicks Off Operations with First Flight to Abuja

Ogun State has officially made its entry into Nigeria’s aviation network as the Gateway International Airport commenced commercial operations today, October 7, 2025. The historic first flight, operated by ValueJet Airlines, departed for Abuja, marking a major milestone in the state’s transport and infrastructure development. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The inaugural flight confirms the readiness of the new airport to handle passenger operations. ValueJet Airlines is currently the first carrier to operate scheduled flights from the Gateway International Airport, with services running twice weekly—every Tuesday and Thursday—connecting Ogun State directly to the Federal Capital Territory.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had earlier granted the airport its Aerodrome Operational Permit in August, paving the way for the official start of commercial activities.

Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed pride and satisfaction over the completion and launch of the airport, describing it as a game-changer for Ogun’s economy and tourism potential. He noted that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to positioning Ogun as a hub for investment and development.

Also commending the project, a prominent APC leader lauded the achievement as a testament to the state’s dedication to infrastructure growth and modernization.

The commencement of operations at Ogun Gateway Airport is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, create job opportunities, boost commerce, and make air travel more accessible for residents and businesses in the region. The state government has also hinted at plans to expand flight routes and airline partnerships in the near future.
