Popular Nigerian singer and entertainer Teniola Apata, better known as Teni, has sparked hilarious reactions online after revealing why she never gives people money on Fridays. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a viral video that quickly caught the attention of fans, the “Billionaire” crooner explained that she avoids handing out money at the end of the week because, according to her, people often spend it on pepper soup instead of meaningful things.

Speaking in her signature playful tone, Teni said in Pidgin English:

“Me I no dey give anybody money on Friday. No no no! If you give person money on Friday, them go use your money go chop pepper soup ooh.”


Teni Recounts a Funny Experience

The award-winning artist went on to share a personal experience that inspired her “Friday rule.”

According to Teni, she once gave someone money after they claimed they wanted to start a business, only to later find out the person used it to buy a large plate of catfish pepper soup.

“I just weak,” she said laughing. “The person say e wan do business. Next thing, e go eat pepper soup with my money. Since then, I no dey give anybody money for Friday again.”

She humorously advised that if anyone wants to help others financially, it’s better to do so on a Monday, when people are still thinking about their goals for the week.
