The wife of the late Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, who died from severe burn injuries following a domestic dispute, has spoken out for the first time.
An audio message circulating on social media captures Mrs. Haruna sharing her side of the story, claiming the tragic event was an accident. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Lt. Samson Haruna, a medical doctor serving as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, reportedly died from burn injuries sustained during a domestic altercation on September 22, 2025.
The incident occurred at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
According to reports, an argument between the couple escalated, and Mrs. Haruna allegedly poured petrol on her husband before setting him on fire.
He was first treated at the Military Reference Section within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he later passed away despite doctors’ efforts.
Following the incident, Mrs. Haruna was arrested as investigations into the case began.

In the audio clip now trending online, Mrs. Haruna maintained that the fire outbreak was unintentional.
She alleged that her husband accidentally kicked over a gallon of petrol, which spilled around their living area. She also claimed that he had threatened to set her on fire if her parents failed to come and take her away.
Mrs. Haruna further accused the late officer of previous physical abuse, stating that she had suffered a miscarriage due to beatings in the past.
According to her, while in the hospital, Lt. Haruna reportedly asked to see her and confessed that the fire was accidental. She claimed he had even pleaded with authorities to drop the case against her.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the current status of the investigation. However, the case has sparked intense public debate about domestic violence, marital conflict, and mental health awareness within military families.
