How Long Will You Be Serving Food?” – Wike Mocks Peter Obi Over Viral Video
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for what he described as a “show of shame” after a video surfaced online showing Obi serving food at a party. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Speaking on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, during the commissioning of the New Edo Line Transport Service in Benin City, Wike questioned Obi’s motive, alleging it was a calculated attempt to deceive Nigerians into believing he is humble.
“This is not where a presidential candidate will begin to serve food. No! No!! How long will he be serving the food? As a president, will he be carrying food and serving? And Nigerians are laughing, calling that humility?” Wike stated.
Wike Blasts Nigerians and Media for “Celebrating Trickery”
The former Rivers State governor further lambasted Nigerians for celebrating what he termed “wayo” (trickery).
“Someone will tell you that as a presidential candidate, he’ll be flying commercial, and you believe it. Which security personnel will allow that? When he was governor, was he serving food? Now election is coming, and he’s doing it again.”
Backs Edo Governor Okpebholo on Security Clearance
Wike also supported Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s warning that Obi must seek proper security clearance before visiting the state.
Okpebholo had earlier stated that Obi’s unannounced visits could pose security risks, recalling that the former governor’s last visit—where he donated ₦15 million to a nursing school—allegedly sparked unrest that left four people dead.
“If Peter Obi wants to come here, he should seek proper security clearance. We cannot guarantee his safety otherwise,” Okpebholo warned.
Wike echoed this, saying:
“All I’m saying is, if you are coming, tell me because I am here to protect you. But people play politics, giving money to twist facts.”
