Terem Moffi Seeks Contract Termination with OGC Nice After Alleged Fan Attack

Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi has reportedly initiated legal steps to terminate his contract with French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice following an alleged physical and racist attack by supporters of the club. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The incident reportedly occurred in November 2024 after Nice suffered a 3–1 home defeat to Lorient. According to reports, Moffi and teammate Jérémie Boga were confronted by a group of angry fans shortly after the match.

It was alleged that both players were physically assaulted, with reports indicating that they were punched, kicked, spat on, and subjected to racist abuse. Some of the attacks were said to have targeted sensitive parts of their bodies. Moffi featured for the full 90 minutes in the match, while Boga was introduced as a substitute.

Following the incident, Moffi reportedly went on medical leave for over six weeks, citing the physical and psychological impact of the attack.

Recent reports indicate that the Nigerian international has now filed a formal complaint with the Professional Football League’s (PFL) legal committee, requesting the termination of his contract with Nice.

According to French sports outlet L’Équipe, Moffi’s legal representatives have validated the request, referencing Articles 51 and 265 of the Professional Football Charter, which address player safety and contractual obligations.

The PFL is expected to examine the case during a scheduled review on Thursday, with multiple outcomes under consideration. While contract termination remains a possibility, the situation could also lead to further negotiations, including a loan move away from the club.

Moffi, who joined Nice in 2023, is currently under contract with the French side until June 2027.

The development has sparked conversations around player safety, fan conduct, and racism in European football, particularly involving African players.
