Award-winning Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has sparked widespread reactions on social media following a strongly worded response allegedly directed at fellow musician Seun Kuti.

The development comes amid growing online exchanges between fans of both artistes, after Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, was perceived to have made comments critical of Wizkid. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In a post widely circulated on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), Wizkid was quoted as issuing a scathing remark at Seun Kuti, describing him in unflattering terms and comparing his own global influence to that of Seun’s late father, Fela.

Although Wizkid has neither officially confirmed nor denied the post, screenshots of the alleged comment have continued to trend across multiple platforms, fuelling intense debate among music lovers.

Seun Kuti, known for his activism and outspoken views on politics, celebrity culture, and governance, has in the past criticised Nigerian entertainers he believes avoid social responsibility.

While he did not mention Wizkid directly in recent remarks, many fans interpreted his statements as a subtle dig at the Grammy-winning singer, triggering reactions from Wizkid’s supporters.

The alleged response has generated mixed reactions, with some fans backing Wizkid for standing his ground, while others condemned the language used, describing it as disrespectful to the legacy of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The exchange has also reignited conversations around Afrobeats stardom versus Afrobeat activism, generational influence, and respect for music pioneers.

As of the time of filing this report, Seun Kuti has not publicly responded to the alleged Instagram post. Wizkid has also refrained from making any further statements regarding the controversy.

Despite the silence, the issue continues to dominate entertainment discussions online, with many awaiting clarification from either party.
