Asake Responds as Seun Kuti Warns Him to Be Careful of Wizkid

Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has reacted—subtly but firmly—after Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti advised him to “be careful” of working with Grammy-winning superstar Wizkid amid an intense online feud. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The warning came as tensions escalated between Seun Kuti and Wizkid following a series of heated exchanges on social media that drew widespread attention from fans and industry watchers.

The controversy began when Seun Kuti criticised Wizkid FC, describing them as “the most ignorant fan base” and claiming their parents had not matched the legacy of his late father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

The comment immediately sparked backlash online, with Wizkid eventually responding in a series of harsh posts.

Wizkid fired back at Seun Kuti, referring to him as a “fool at forty,” a “hungry bstard,”* and “a frog who lives in the mud.”

The exchange further escalated when Seun Kuti warned Wizkid to remove Fela’s tattoo from his body, suggesting that failure to do so could affect his future success.

Amid the feud, Seun Kuti publicly cautioned Asake, urging him to be careful about associating with Wizkid. The comment raised eyebrows, especially as Asake had been rumoured to be working closely with the Starboy boss.

Despite the warning, Asake appeared unfazed. On January 23, 2026, the singer officially announced the release of his joint project with Wizkid, Real EP Vol. 1, confirming that the collaboration had moved forward regardless of the controversy.

The announcement was made via Instagram, accompanied by a sleek promotional video and a caption written in Yoruba:

“Real EP Vol. 1 ti jade bayi”
(“Real EP Vol. 1 is out now”)

The EP announcement followed the earlier release of its lead single, Jogodo, which dropped on January 16, 2026 and quickly gained traction across streaming platforms and social media.

The song helped build anticipation for the full project and signalled the strong creative synergy between both artists.

Fans of both Asake and Wizkid have since taken to social media to share mixed but largely positive reactions, with many praising the collaboration despite the ongoing feud involving Seun Kuti.

The development suggests that Asake has chosen to focus on music and artistic growth rather than being drawn into industry controversies.
