Outrage as Immigration Officer Faces Alleged 4-Day Sexual Assault Scandal

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has come under intense public scrutiny following allegations that one of its officers unlawfully detained and sexually assaulted a young Nigerian woman over several days.

The allegations emerged after an investigative report by journalist Fisayo Soyombo, which claimed that a 21-year-old woman from Akwa Ibom State was arrested by an immigration officer identified as Isa Makama. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to the report, the woman alleged that she was held against her will for several days and repeatedly sexually assaulted during that period. She further claimed that other young women were also present at the location at the time of her detention.

The report has triggered widespread outrage across social media platforms, with many Nigerians calling for immediate accountability, a transparent investigation, and justice for the alleged victim. Civil society groups and rights advocates have also urged authorities to ensure the matter is not swept under the carpet.

Reacting to the development, the Nigeria Immigration Service confirmed that it has launched a full-scale investigation into the allegations.

In a statement released online, the Service described the claims as extremely serious, stressing that any form of misconduct by its personnel is unacceptable and runs contrary to its professional standards and core values.

“The Service has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the allegations, and any personnel found to have engaged in misconduct will be held accountable. Appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be applied,” the statement said.

The NIS further assured the public that it would not protect any officer found culpable.

“The Service will neither shield nor condone any act that undermines public trust or violates the rights and dignity of individuals,” it added.

As investigations continue, Nigerians have called on relevant authorities to ensure transparency, victim protection, and swift justice, emphasising the need to uphold human rights and restore public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
