University of Abuja Appoints Two Deputy Vice-Chancellors

 

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, has approved the appointment of two new Deputy Vice-Chancellors.

The council, chaired by Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, ratified the appointments during its 82nd extraordinary meeting held on February 13, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob.

Prof. Rosemary Udeozor was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), while Prof. Muhammad Ndagi will serve as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Yakoob explained that both academics were returned unopposed following the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, with their appointments taking effect from February 13 for a tenure of two years in line with the institution’s regulations.

He noted that in their acceptance remarks, the newly appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellors pledged to support the university’s management and align with its strategic vision.

Prof. Udeozor, a specialist in Educational Administration and Planning in the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education, obtained her BA Ed, MEd and PhD degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She joined the university in 1995 and attained the rank of professor in 2009.

She has previously served as Director of the General Studies Unit and Deputy Director of the Centre for Distance Learning. She is also a member of the Nigerian Academy of Education and the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Planning.

Prof. Ndagi, a Professor of Arabic Linguistics in the Department of Arabic, holds academic qualifications from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the International Institute for Arabic Language, Khartoum. With more than 45 years of teaching experience, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Deputy Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

He is a Fellow of Arabic Studies in Nigeria and has contributed significantly to academic research and language policy development.

Acting Registrar’s Appointment Extended

In a related development, the Governing Council also approved the extension of the appointment of Malam Sambo Mohammed as Acting Registrar.

According to Yakoob, the decision was taken at the council meeting held on February 5, pending the completion of the process for appointing a substantive registrar.
