
There was confusion and outrage in Mowe, Ogun State, after a newly employed gateman allegedly made away with 14 mobile phones on his first day of work at a charging spot.
The incident, which has resurfaced online, was shared by a social media user identified as a thrift vendor based in Mowe/Ibafo. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
According to the narrator, the shocking incident occurred about three years ago when the gateman reportedly took advantage of customers who had left their phones to charge.
He allegedly removed all SIM cards from the devices before fleeing the premises with the phones.
“On this day 3 years ago, our brand-new gateman decided to turn his first job into a heist and disappeared with the phones of people who came to charge at our place. He stole 14 phones in total and removed all SIM cards,” she wrote.
The bizarre development reportedly left victims stranded, confused, and searching for answers as their devices suddenly went missing.
When asked if the suspect was eventually apprehended, the narrator revealed that he was never caught.
However, she added that there were unconfirmed reports suggesting the gateman may have lost his life while attempting to escape.
“No, but we heard he lost his life while running away… I will do a story time, the gist is long,” she added.
The story has since sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing disbelief over the boldness of the suspect, while others described the incident as both shocking and oddly humorous.
Some users also highlighted the need for proper background checks before hiring staff, especially in roles involving access to customers’ property.
