Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has sparked fresh debate online after publicly calling out ace music executive Don Jazzy over the success trajectory of artists signed under Mavin Records.
In a viral video making rounds on social media, the “Zazu” crooner questioned why several artists who exit the label allegedly struggle to maintain dominance in the music industry. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Portable, known for his outspoken personality, directly appealed to Don Jazzy, proposing a potential collaboration while also throwing subtle jabs at the label boss.
“Don Jazzy, why is it that everyone who leaves your label don’t reign again? Come and package me and let’s partner,” he said.
The singer went further to make bold claims about the current relevance of some top Nigerian artists, including Rema and Tiwa Savage.
“Even Rema is no more reigning. Only Tiwa Savage is reigning,” Portable added.
Portable’s comments come amid recent controversy involving Crayon, a Mavin Records signee since 2019.
Crayon had earlier taken to social media in a series of now-deleted posts to level serious allegations against Don Jazzy. He accused the music executive of withholding his royalties and claimed financial mismanagement within the label.
In a shocking claim, the singer also alleged that Don Jazzy was responsible for his mother’s death—an accusation that has since stirred outrage and skepticism online.
Crayon further stated that payments due to him were deliberately delayed and used as leverage, vowing to expose more details about the situation.
The unfolding drama has generated mixed reactions across social media, with fans divided over Portable’s claims and Crayon’s allegations.
While some users defended Don Jazzy, citing his track record of nurturing successful artists, others called for transparency within record labels in Nigeria’s music industry.
As of the time of filing this report, Don Jazzy has not issued any official response to either Portable’s remarks or Crayon’s allegations.
