26 Arrested Over Yelwata Massacre — Police Close in on Killers
In a major breakthrough following the gruesome massacre in Yelwata, Benue State, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the arrest of 26 suspects linked to the attack that left 47 people dead in Guma Local Government Area.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the IGP noted that although 28 individuals were initially detained, two were later cleared after being used strategically to bait the actual masterminds behind the killings. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
“We are not overwhelmed,” Egbetokun emphasized.
“Our operations are expanding. Border surveillance has been tightened, and illegal arms are being recovered daily.”
The arrests come on the heels of a joint security operation in Benue on Sunday, although the state’s Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, has remained tight-lipped about the names of those in custody for “operational reasons.”
🔍 More Arrests Incoming
The police boss assured Nigerians that more suspects would be apprehended, as investigations continue into what has been described as one of the deadliest communal attacks in recent months.
In a related update, Egbetokun also disclosed that 22 other suspects arrested in Jos would be charged in court for their role in the killing of nine wedding-bound travelers en route to Quanpan.

These developments follow President Bola Tinubu’s directive during a recent visit to Benue, where he ordered security forces to hunt down all culprits and prevent a repeat of such bloodshed.
