Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has counseled the incoming Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ladoja, to draw a clear line between politics and traditional leadership as he prepares to ascend the throne. Eyes Of Lagos reports,


Obasanjo Sends Message of Congratulations and Guidance

In a statement released through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo congratulated Ladoja ahead of his coronation, describing the Olubadan stool as an “exalted and responsible position.”

Obasanjo reminded the monarch-in-waiting that effective traditional rulership requires humility, patience, divine wisdom, and tolerance, urging him to surround himself with wise and diverse advisors.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate you, Ade a pe lori, bata a pe lese. It is an exalted and responsible position to be traditional ruler of all Ibadan people. It requires humility, patience, divine wisdom, tolerance and advice from wide and varied quarters to succeed. Traditional rulership does not compete or conflict with political rulership. I wish you all the best and the grace, guide and direction of Almighty God,” Obasanjo stated.


Olubadan Coronation Holds September 26, 2025

The coronation of Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland has been scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025.

As preparations intensify across the ancient city, Obasanjo’s advice is seen as a timely reminder of the delicate balance monarchs must maintain in modern Nigeria — honoring cultural traditions while staying above political rivalries.
