Armed Robbers Attacked Funke Akindele During Omo Ghetto Filming – Actress Bimbo Thomas Reveals
Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has recounted a terrifying incident during the production of Omo Ghetto: The Saga, revealing that armed robbers once attacked the hotel where the cast and crew were lodged in Ebute Metta, Lagos State. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Bimbo shared the experience during a recent interview on With Chide, describing the incident as one of the most frightening moments of her acting career.
According to the actress, the attackers appeared to be specifically searching for Funke Akindele, who served as the film’s producer and lead actress, following earlier tensions with hoodlums around the filming location.
She explained that the movie’s portrayal of street life often attracted resistance from some youths in the area, who felt the scenes mirrored their realities. Despite heightened security measures, the situation reportedly escalated one night after filming activities had ended.
Bimbo recalled that close to midnight, loud noises and shouts of “Ole” filled the hotel premises as the attackers attempted to force their way inside, throwing everyone into panic.
She said the women in the hotel immediately began praying as the intruders struggled to gain access to the rooms.
Realising that Funke Akindele was the primary target, the actresses reportedly tried to hide her inside the room. However, the attackers eventually broke in and repeatedly called out Funke’s name.
According to Bimbo, the armed men later dragged Funke downstairs to her car, where she was allegedly forced to sing and dance while they held weapons.
She added that although only a few of the attackers entered the hotel, many others were stationed outside, leaving the cast and crew completely helpless.
Security operatives were eventually alerted to the situation, gunshots were fired into the air, and the attackers fled the scene.
Bimbo described the incident as a close brush with death, noting that it left a deep emotional impact on everyone involved in the production.
“We truly thank God,” she said, reflecting on the night she said could have ended in tragedy.
