Portable Welcomes New Baby While in Prison Custody

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has welcomed a new child while still in prison custody following his recent remand over criminal charges.

The development comes barely five days after the singer was ordered to be remanded, as reports indicate that his first wife, Omobewaji, gave birth during his detention. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Portable was arraigned on Monday, January 12, 2026, before a Federal High Court sitting in Ogun State, where he faced a nine-count criminal charge.

During the proceedings, the presiding judge declined to grant the singer bail, citing the absence of the police officer allegedly assaulted by Portable, who was expected to appear in court to give testimony.

As a result, the court ordered that the musician be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to January 19, 2026, for the hearing and consideration of his bail application.

Meanwhile, sources close to the singer disclosed that news of the birth of his child has since been communicated to him at the correctional facility.

According to the reports, Portable reportedly received the news with excitement and expressed joy and gratitude, while also stating his eagerness to regain his freedom so he could see his newborn baby for the first time.

Portable’s current legal troubles are said to be connected to an earlier incident involving one of his wives, Ashabi Simple, during which the singer allegedly assaulted a police officer.

The incident reportedly led to his arrest and subsequent arraignment, adding to a series of controversies that have followed the singer in recent years.

As of the time of filing this report, Portable remains in custody, awaiting the court’s decision on his bail application.
