Medical Doctor Arrested for Allegedly Fabricating Report for Blogger Just Adetoun
A medical doctor has been arrested after allegedly helping social media influencer and blogger Just Adetoun (Adetoun Onajobi) produce a false medical report claiming she was unfit to honour an invitation from the Ogun State Police Command. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
The blogger is facing a six-count criminal charge at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, over allegations of publishing false accusations against the Ogun State Government and cyberbullying the state governor, Dapo Abiodun.
The Ogun State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi, revealed that instead of appearing for police inquiries, Adetoun, through her lawyer, submitted a letter accompanied by a medical report, claiming she was medically indisposed.
“The medical report detailed several health challenges allegedly suffered by Adetoun and efforts to stabilise her. Investigation, however, revealed the claims were false,” Babaseyi said.
According to the police, the doctor confessed that the report was fabricated at the direction of Adetoun during a phone conversation facilitated by her lawyer.
The doctor has since been arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court on charges including conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstructing the course of justice.
Meanwhile, the six-count charge against Adetoun is pending before the Abeokuta Division of the Federal High Court, accusing her of using social media and internet platforms to:
Publish false accusations against the Ogun State Government, and
Cyberbully Governor Dapo Abiodun, in breach of the Cybercrimes Act.
The police noted that Adetoun has evaded multiple invitations to answer the charges and her current location remains unknown.
The Ogun State Police Command said it will continue to pursue all suspects connected to the false information allegedly deployed by Adetoun to obstruct investigations.
“Having reneged on her prior undertaking to honour police invitations, the Command will exhaust all lawful means to apprehend and produce her before the court to answer the charges,” Babaseyi added.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains resolute in its duty to tackle all forms of crime, whether violent, white-collar, or digital, while respecting constitutional rights. Free speech does not grant immunity from criminal conduct.”
