Bullion Van Driver Arrested for One-Way Driving on Lekki–Epe Expressway
A bullion van driver has been arrested for driving against traffic along the Lekki–Epe Expressway, as the Lagos State Government intensified enforcement of traffic laws across the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy for traffic violations that endanger lives and property. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
The driver, identified as Daniel Ikede, was intercepted at the Chevron axis of the Lekki–Epe Expressway during an on-site inspection of planned road rehabilitation works along the corridor.
Giwa was accompanied by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the inspection.
Speaking at the scene, Giwa said the arrest demonstrated the state government’s commitment to enforcing traffic laws without fear or favour, regardless of the vehicle involved.
He warned that driving against traffic, commonly referred to as one-way driving, remains one of the leading causes of avoidable road accidents in Lagos.
According to him, the act is a recipe for disaster that continues to claim innocent lives daily.
Giwa expressed concern over what he described as increasing recklessness among some motorists, questioning the mindset of drivers who believe they can flout traffic regulations.
He noted that traffic was flowing smoothly at the time of the incident, yet the driver still chose to drive against traffic.
The special adviser suggested that the driver may have assumed he was exempt from the law because of the nature of the vehicle he was operating.
“You cannot be driving one-way on a Lagos expressway,” Giwa stated, stressing that no vehicle or individual is exempt from traffic regulations.
Giwa urged all motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic rules at all times, emphasising that road safety is a shared responsibility.
He assured Lagos residents that the driver would be made to face the full weight of the law, adding that the state government would continue to enforce compliance to maintain order and protect lives on Lagos roads.
